Change is All Around

Wow, so Katie Couric is headed to CBS where she'll finally be a woman trusted to read news off a box alone at 7pm. And probably Meredith Veira is on her way to Katie's old job. Someone's probably waiting for a call about Meredith's job.

When Andy Card resigned last week (was it?) he said to everything there is a season... it was a totally blase turn of phrase but MAN the times they are a-changin'. At long last there's a shake up in the administration.

My (two pairs of) parents are retiring and moving south. My company is on the brink of dramatic change because we are fast going broke. My husband's car died today so we have to get him a new one even though... we are about to list and (hopefully) sell the first house we bought together. Our tenants are up and moving to Moscow.

A friend who started dating someone 4 months ago just broke up with him. More changes for her. Another friend moved back to California after a year long experimental move to Arizona. My little baby cousin (we called him "Goo Goo") is turning 25 on Saturday. My aunt just lost her job and will be finding a new one.

We're creating a family partnership for our family homestead and that will be a whole new world. My California friend is having her first baby in about a month...along with every celebrity known to man.

As my co-worker says, "People are dying today who have never died before." And it's true, they're dropping like flies, just a spate of deaths from anticipated to unexpected.

The Washington Post newspaper just launched a radio station. WTF? Down is up! My Martha Stewart radio station has switched around its shows and TV's doing the same launching mid-season or end of season replacements. I don't know when anything is on.

My old laptop was having severe functionality issues, so I am currently breaking in a new one. A big change in my little world.

With the coming of spring it feels like everything is awakening, and changing. It's hard to see the constants around me with so much in flux.

Bleu Cheese, Key Lime, Cheesecake...Theme?

I've been experimenting quite a bit lately.

March 18th
Fried chicken, baked beans, macaroni & cheese, Key lime pie, cheesecake with dark cherries.

March 24th
Chicken potsticker/wanton hybrid with vaguely Asian noodles.

March 25th
Cheeseburgers made with ground round in the cast iron skillet, boiled gold potatoes, devil's food cake, bleu cheese dressing. This was the first beef burger I had had since 1984.

April 1st

Ginger citrus chicken with jasmine rice, salad topped with wonton crisps, and bleu cheese dressing. (Now that I have learned how to make it I can't stop myself.)

April 2nd
Steak and cheese wraps with assorted cheeses and dressings for lunch.

April 3rd
Reprise of the potato leek soup I made a few weeks back. Delicious. It's potatoes, 8 oz of sour cream, cayenne (used red pepper flakes this time in a pinch), half and half, S&P and butter. Um, how could that not be amazing? Yum.
